THE URGENT HIRE

The Japan Representative Director of a mid-sized US biotech reached out to us in a bit of a panic. His Regulatory Affairs Director had just tendered his resignation, and there was no one internally who possessed the requisite experience to succeed him. Speed was a key factor in finding a replacement, especially given the fact that some key studies were moving to late stages.

To get the ball rolling, we sat down with the Representative Director and R&D Head to review an RA market map. After identifying 10 candidates of interest, we agreed on a specific pitch to deliver to candidates in the market. Given the abrupt departure of the previous RA Director (which it turns out was due to family illness), the right message would be a critical component.

Three of the candidates identified were interested to apply, whilst two others were at least open to hearing more details about the position. The client showed flexibility with those two in agreeing to conduct an exploratory first meeting for them.

Fast forward 2 weeks, and two finalists had been selected for a videoconference with the Global CMO. The winning candidate, incidentally, was one of those who had initially requested the casual first meeting, and without the client’s willingness to do so, the client would have otherwise missed out on this crucial hire.
